REVIEW: The Fine Art Society - 'Patience Is A Virtue'

It’s been three years since the Fine Art Society released their debut EP “For Old Times’ Sake”, but now the Derby/Nottingham based three piece are back with their new single, “Patience Is A Virtue”.

Although they have still been playing gigs in their recording hiatus, TFAS’ new single brings out a more mature, refined sound that differs from the cheeky-chappy EP of 2015.

A song with a positive outlook and an anthemic, hard-hitting chorus gives the band a new sound to work with, almost reminiscent of The Gaslight Anthem. However, TFAS manage to hang on to the touch of ska/punk in the rhythm section and the fun, D.I.Y. attitude that attendees to their gigs recognise and love, the latter being visible in the accompanying music video.

A lot of bands of this calibre sometimes over-produce and complicate their singles, which leads to them losing the live sound that they are often noted for. However, Marshall (bass/backing vocals) and Leedell (drums) don’t lose this at all in the mix. If anything, their production enhances the sound, building up a sense of expectation of energy that will be fulfilled when seeing them live.

This band are definitely worth keeping an eye out for over the next few months for their live shows (Angel Brewhouse, 1st June, Nottingham; Blok Out Festival, 14th July, Derby) and this new single proves why.

The single and video are available below so go and check them out, you’ll not regret it!
