Modern Comforts are a new four piece hailing from Burton-on-Trent, who have already made big waves in their local scene.
Kicking off with chords that recall the indie anthems of Arctic Monkeys and Milburn but given a slightly darker twist, Easy Tiger is the group’s debut single and a real earworm.
Connor Curran’s rasping, raw delivery shows his skill both as a vocalist and in capturing the emotions created by the song. Even on first listen it is clear that the band’s performances feed off each other well – the song’s bassline wouldn’t sound out of place on a Favourite Worst Nightmare track, and the drumming across the track is timed exactly right as the song ebbs and flows.
Topped off by the sort of down-to-earth lyrics that are in high demand at the minute, Easy Tiger is a beast of a first single. It’s easy to imagine how good tracks like this are going to sound live, and there’s that palpable sense of a band just getting started with a lot of exciting things in store.
8/10
