It’s an understatement to say that the future looks bright for Sheffield indie pop four-piece Bayonet.

They’ve sold out several hometown shows (including their Leadmill gig next Saturday), have been played at half time at Old Trafford and today released brilliant new single ‘Heart Attack’.

Opening with crashing drums that give way to a huge riff and heartfelt vocals, Bayonet already have a sound that simultaneously manages to be polished and authentic. Their songs are instantly recognisable as their own and this is possibly the strongest studio release from the band yet. That said, ‘Three Months’, ‘Everything’ and ‘Weekend’ prove that there is strength and variety to the band’s work.

“You shot through my veins, you made my heart attack, oh my world’s not the same my little heart attack,” runs a chorus that will be stuck in your head for at least a good few days. It’s clear how hardworking Bayonet are as a band; the harmonies on ‘Heart Attack’ are second to none, the song progresses nicely and they put on a quality live show to boot.

Increasingly, it looks like less of a case of if they hit the big time but when. See Bayonet in smaller venues while you still can – soon enough, their refreshing, accessible and distinctive sound will have captured the hearts of the nation.

9/10
