There’s no denying the impact or success of Gabrielle Aplin since the 2013 release of debut album English Rain, which featured top 10 singles ‘Please Don’t Say You Love Me’, ‘Panic Cord’, ‘Home’, ‘Salvation’ and her unforgettable chart-topping cover of ‘The Power Of Love’. This was followed up by last year’s impressive sophomore release Light Up The Dark, and now Aplin is back once more with new single ‘Miss You’.

Something of a departure from Aplin’s usual sound, ‘Miss You’ features upbeat, danceable production and an immediately catchy chorus – the result of her co-writing the track and also the influence of producer Mike Spencer, who has worked with the likes of Rudimental and Jack Garratt. It was in my head upon first listen and goes to show the real versatility of Aplin’s music, as it completely contrasts with the tracks with which she made her name but is equally original and accessible.

Aplin has said that ‘Miss You’ is “about rediscovering your former self and precious dreams, desires and goals that may have got lost along with real life. I wanted the EP to represent a dream-like state and surreal reality.”

‘Miss You’ is taken from the upcoming EP of the same name, which will be out on 16 December and also feature ‘Night Bus’, ‘Run For Cover’ and a piano version of its title track. It is to be released on Aplin’s own independent record label Never Fade Records, which was set up so she can release her own music.

We can’t wait to hear more from her at NRMB in light of a hugely promising comeback single which is well worth a listen and download.

8/10

The track is available on Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud. You can follow Gabrielle on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Soundcloud.
