As well as The Vryll Society and Hidden Charms, The Strawberries are part of a new wave of more experimental indie acts pushing genre boundaries while still creating catchy, accessible tunes. They told NRMB about their success so far - which will hit a new high with their Leeds Festival appearance this weekend - and gave a few hints about what lies ahead...

Dominic Penna: How would you describe what you're doing as The Strawberries?

The Strawberries: The Strawberries’ sound is something that we find comes pretty naturally, with all of our individual influences coming through. But we love to try and push ourselves into new musical territory.

DP: Your first major effort 'Laburnum House' is absolutely brilliant - a distinct, slick and very memorable track. What can our readers expect from your future songs?

The Strawberries: We’ve just recently come out of the studio. Without giving too much away, we’ve tried to capture the raw energy of our live shows.

DP: In our interview with Hidden Charms, you were one of their picks to go on to huge things in the future. Who are you listening to a lot at the moment?

The Strawberries: Apart from Hidden Charms, we're really liking Bang Bang Romeo, Cupids and The Vryll Society to name a few.

DP: What have been the highs of your time together so far, and have there been any difficulties?

The Strawberries: We've done some really interesting shows, and that's what we love doing. We don't think we've ever come across any difficulties, we just enjoy writing new material and hanging out as a group.

DP: Are you planning a tour, and/or more new music, in the coming months?

The Strawberries: We've been working really hard for the last few months, and we can't say much yet. But we're really excited to share everything with everyone very soon.

DP: Where do you hope that The Strawberries will be in a few years?

The Strawberries: We don't think we can predict what's gonna happen, but we've got a lot of things in the pipeline and we're gonna keep on working hard. We just hope people like the music and the live shows.

If you're off to Leeds Festival this weekend, keep an eye out for The Strawberries - they will play the Jack Rocks/This Feeling stage, with their day and stage time announced soon.
