Hailing from an exciting Nottingham indie scene which has seen Amber Run, Saint Raymond and Jake Bugg achieve great things in the last few years, Suspect Alibi have the songs and skill to achieve similar success - NRMB conducted the following interview with their lead singer George Gretton...

Dominic Penna: When and how did Suspect Alibi form?
George Gretton: We met at school, and had been together in various forms until this current lineup stuck. We were actually all in the school jazz band before forming this band. That's either a cool or very uncool story depending on who's asking. Probably the latter.
DP: Who are the biggest inspirations behind your music?
GG: I'd say the songwriting lies somewhere between Foals, Paul Simon and MGMT, but there's so many different influences from a range of genres. You'll hear a variety of sounds and textures in upcoming releases you may not expect from a band of our genre.
DP: Your new single 'Sit Tight' builds on the big, catchy sound of the 'Roadside' EP by adding more layers and scope - is this a sign of what we can expect from future music?
GG: Yes and no. Our currently unreleased music definitely has the same attention to layers, everything we write we want to be bigger and better than the last. But the rest of our new music is probably much more mellow than 'Sit Tight'.
DP: Which other up and coming acts on the Nottingham scene are you most keen on?
GG: Where to start. Something big's happening in Nottingham at the moment, people will take notice soon! I think Field Studies are going to be massive, and rightly so, Bud has an amazing voice, and I still think D.I.D write some of the best songs out of anyone in their genre in the country.
DP: What can people expect from a Suspect Alibi live show?
GG: Loud songs, quiet songs, happy songs sad songs. And lots of energy!
DP: Lastly, where do you see yourselves in a couple of years' time?
GG: I'd love to be able to put out an album that we're proud of and really represents us at some point. Also, to carry on playing more and more live shows, wherever they may be.
More new music is on the way from Suspect Alibi soon - you can buy their latest track Sit Tight here for just 79p.
