Two years on from Carry On The Grudge and over a year since the Magnolia Melancholia EP, Jamie T made a long-awaited return last night as new track 'Tinfoil Boy' premiered on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show. Here are the first thoughts of NRMB writers on the track...

JAMIE T IS BACK PEOPLE. The track starts sinister and dark, samples of a woman's voice unsettle you before Jamie starts the first verse. Two lines of vocal then BANG- that chorus! The creeping verse bursts into a powerful chorus based around a particularly heavy riff for a Jamie T track, fitting the dark mood of the song well. The track has echoes of "Peter" off of his latest album "Carry On The Grudge", differing from witty lyrics and lighter, upbeat music and presenting a more suspenseful sound. I think this song will be perfect for gigs as well- the suspense built up in the verses met by such a powerful, earthquake of a chorus provides the perfect foundation for a good mosh! Jamie T is back and still on top form, I look forward to hearing more new material from him. 8/10 ~ Laurence Penna

I quite like it to be fair, different but decent. Reminds me of Chase and Status' first album a bit. 7.5/10 ~ Dan McGrath

This is what I would call completely boring. Starting with some really ill-fitting and stupid samples, the song then moves on to some guitar picking with vocals over the top which - let’s face it - we’ve all heard before and is very “wannabe”. We then find ourselves at a so called “drop” which is actually just like an unexpected fart on the track, attempting to go down a grime/dubstep route and dramatically failing. Then we have a bridge which is also pretty crappy and not something very original. Just same old crappy Jamie T in my opinion. 1.5/10 ~ Will Cruddace

Distorted samples, a seismic rock riff and Jamie's signature delivery combine to wonderfully menacing effect on Tinfoil Boy. The chorus and drop are a particular highlight, and any doubts I had about him branching out in style were gone within the first minute. It's definitely heavier and more experimental than I expected, but nonetheless I feel it lives up to Jamie T's exceptionally high standards. 8.5/10 ~ Dominic Penna

It's sick baso. 10/10 without a doubt ~ Izzie Mawhood
