In the last twelve months particularly, London quartet Hidden Charms have won legions of fans with their unique combination of influences and immersive tracks. I caught up with them to discuss their blues background, the exciting amount of bands also on the rise and plans to record an EP and album further down the line…

Dominic Penna: What is the background behind Hidden Charms coming together?

Hidden Charms: Hidden Charms was formed from a few different bands on the London blues scene in 2014.

DP: Who would you say are your biggest musical influences and inspirations?

HC: Our mutual connection was the early blues stuff like Howling Wolf and Muddy Waters, but now we listen to all sorts

and draw inspiration from everything and anything.

DP: Do you have a favourite track among the ones you’ve put out so far?

HC: ‘Long Way Down’. DP: Tracks such as ‘Long Way Down’ and ‘Love You Cause You’re There’ show real potential and variety – is there a Hidden Charms album in the works?

HC: Yes, at some point, we are in no rush and still developing musically. We just want to make something unquestionably good and that takes time – we should have an EP out in October and an album to follow.

DP: Are there any other up-and-coming acts you’re listening to a lot at the minute?

HC: The Vyrll Society, Black Honey, The Strawberries, James Wing to name a few, so many good young bands now. It’s exciting.

DP: What would be your dream gig or venue to play?

HC: Royal Albert Hall, or Brixton Academy…as Londoners that would be an honour.

DP: Finally, what are your plans and goals for the rest of 2016?

HC: We are currently in festival season mode, and just working on new material. We will be recording our EP, then touring in October and November to promote it.
