After their superb ‘Fast Food – EP’ last summer, I spoke to Rob from Nottingham indie five-piece D.I.D. to discuss their evolving sound, artists they’re loving at the moment and album two…

1. It has been almost four years since your debut ‘All Our Favourite Stories’, which is still adored by so many. Are there plans for a second album soon?

ROB: Yes! There is an EP on the way in a month’s time and we are mixing the album right now.

2. Who would you say are your biggest musical inspirations?

R: I think between the 5 of us it's quite an eclectic mix, we came together loving heavy music and big harmony music and settled on the blend you hear.

3. From Saint Raymond to Suspect Alibi, your sound has had an especially large impact on Nottingham’s indie scene. Do you have any favourite local artists at the moment?

R: Field Studies, Joy Mumford, Kagoule.

4. The ‘Fast Food’ single and EP showcased a more melancholy, mature style. Can we expect more of this from future D.I.D. music?

R: Yes and No. The next single goes back to our roots, pure 5 part harmony throughout, not a whiff of maturity there! We promise you'll never hear the same thing twice with this band though.

5. What should bands have to set them apart in a crowded, competitive indie scene?

R: An explosive live show and interesting, genuine and honest lyrics and music.

6. You’re well known for your energetic and memorable live sets – how do you approach these?

R: We just don't think there's any point turning up to a show if people aren't going to be talking about the performance you gave for a long time, simple as that. We love being on stage and I think you get out what you put in to playing live.

7. Finally, what are your ambitions going forward?

R: Make more records, play more shows and reach more people further afield. That simple!
