Raleigh Ritchie’s long awaited debut album “You’re A Man Now, Boy” came out only weeks ago, however last Friday we were treated to yet another new song - “On Fire”. Like his empowering single “Stronger Than Ever” and fan-favourite “Cowards”, Raleigh has once again said “Hey” to producer Chris Loco to create this new track.
The track itself is true to the classic Raleigh Ritchie style, with deep and meaningful lyrics that are from the heart and about Raleigh’s inner feelings, delivered by empowering vocals. The narrative describes RR feeling unable to be himself and speak out, however this progresses, and the song has quickly turned into one of empowerment and self-belief by the first pre-chorus, with Raleigh Ritchie feeling “unbreakable”, but more importantly “On Fire”. I think the raw emotion these lyrics portray makes them beautifully written, Raleigh Ritchie has an incredible talent for writing these sort of lyrics which we have seen previously from songs such as “Stronger Than Ever” and “You’re A Man Now, Boy”. “On Fire” is a just another compelling example of his outstanding work.
Similarly to “Cowards”, “On Fire” has a catchy, glitchy melody, with use of synth and percussion which compliment each other perfectly. One of my favourite features of the music are the pauses which emphasise the changes of melody and transitions between different parts of the song. Another favourite part it's the use of scraper and plastic cowbell. Both are basic pieces of percussion which are often overlooked, however I think they bring this song to life and give it that Raleigh Ritchie/Chris Loco buzz that no one else can seem to achieve.
9/10
