With a brand new single “Midnight Rush” just released, and straight from touring with Eliza And The Bear, I caught up with James from Secret Company to ask him some questions…

1. First off, how did you first get together as a band and what made you think of the name “Secret Company”?

Tim, Kushal and myself (James) went to school and played in previous bands together. We met Scott (frontman) on the local music scene playing gigs etc. We all got talking through a friend of ours. I decided to ask Scott if he wanted to write some music with me as an experiment/for fun, and it all went on from there. The name Secret Company came from an early song we had written called secret company... Turns out we liked it as a name more than the song. Although we do have plans to bring that song back to life.... we will have to change it slightly though unsure emoticon might be a bit cheesy singing your own band name in a chorus haha

2. Who inspired you to write the type of music you make?

We have many inspirations. so many artists/bands who we've listened to over the years who have somehow shaped the way we sound now. There is no real obvious influence in our music I don't think. But artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, John Mayer, Prince we've been a little obsessed with so perhaps some of those are in the back of our minds when writing..? We spent a lot of time honing in on various aspects of the sound... getting some nice grooves/melodies together. A tribal drum/percussion sound is something we've always gone for

3. Your new single Midnight Rush has a captivating new video, what's the song about and how does the video reflect this?

Yeah Midnight Rush is the kind of song that intends to emulate a whole bunch of mixed feelings and emotion whilst you're driving late at night - perhaps totally on impulse! But you're on a mission, you need to get somewhere, you're up to no good, it's all a little secretive and of course there's always a girl involved. With this song there was always like an underlying cinematic vision to it, like Sin City/ Drive kinda vibes and we feel the vid captures this. We were really happy with how it came out.

4. You recently went on tour with Eliza And The Bear, what was it like supporting them, and are they a good laugh?

Yeh we had a right laugh! They're a great bunch of lads. Very welcoming from the word go!! It's always good to feel instantly at home when you go on tour! & they're also Essex boys so we had a fair bit to talk about!

5. Which artist or band would you like to gig with most?

Good question! For me there's wayyyy too many. Am really digging the paper kites new album at the moment so I'm gonna say those guys!!

6. Which has been your favourite ever gig you've done?

Best gig for me so far was supporting Coasts at the Roundhouse. Such an epic venue! Some gigs become a bit of a blur but on that occasion I soaked up every moment whilst on stage.

7. Will there be anymore new singles or even an album coming up in the near future?

There's definitely an album on its way... But until then a single and EP coming real soon! Can't wait to get more of our new music out there!
